The regular season came to a close Friday evening for the Pella Christian basketball teams, as they split a doubleheader at Oskaloosa after it was postponed 24 hours due to winter weather. The Eagles girls picked up win number three on the season, and got the season sweep of the Indians with a 69-64 victory.

Pella Christian jumped out to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter, but the Indians stormed back in the second. It was tied at 26, but the Eagles closed the half on a 10-2 run to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room, a lead Pella Christian would never give up.

A 13 point lead in the second half dwindled down to as little as four in the closing minutes, but the Eagles iced the game with free throws. Senior Chloe Morgan dropped 29 points, a career-high, along with four 3-pointers and a mark of 9-10 at the free throw line. She says that despite a fantastic individual performance, it was a great team win ahead of today’s postseason opener.

“It felt great, I think it was really great team win going into the postseason, and we’ll have a lot of energy,” Morgan says.

Junior Allison Van Gorp also tacked on 20 points. Pella Christian’s regular season ends with a 3-18 record. They’ll travel to Colfax-Mingo today for the first round of regional action, which can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The Eagles boys were looking to continue their winning ways after a win over Newton on Tuesday, but it was the Indians who got revenge from their loss to Pella Christian in January with a 61-46 victory. Despite the Eagles holding a two-point lead after one, Oskaloosa cranked things up offensively to lead 37-24 at halftime. An 18-10 scoring advantage in the third quarter effectively sealed the win, while the Indians increased the lead to as many as 21 in the second half.

Jack Vermeer paced the Eagles with 17 points while Dan Jungling added 12. Xavier Foster led the Indians with 30 points in the Iowa State commit’s final regular season home game.

Pella Christian’s regular season ends with a 10-10 record. They’ll open district play on Thursday in Urbandale against either Roland-Story or West Marshall.
