The Pella wrestling team is sending an athlete to state after competing in a deeply talented district meet Saturday at Des Moines East. Kody Huisman was able to emerge as the tournament’s runner-up in the 220 pound weight class and is advancing to the state meet Thursday at Wells Fargo Arena. Huisman battled back with two wins by fall in the 3rd place and 2nd place matches after losing in the semifinal. Ryan Van Donselaar (145) fought to a 3rd place finish but did not wrestle in the 2nd place match. It was a tight game of points for Ryan Hancock, who came in as No. 9 in 3A in the 113 pound weight class. After breezing through the quarterfinal round, Hancock lost by a 9-7 decision in the semifinal and in sudden victory in overtime in the 3rd place match.
