The Indianola wrestling team placed 8th in the class 3A state dual meet Wednesday in action heard live on KNIAKRLS.com.

The Indians ran into a buzzsaw against top ranked Waverly-Shellrock in the first round, picking up wins from Nick Bonanno at 160lbs, Caleb Watson at 182lbs, Jacob Baretta at 195lbs, Cooper Belt at 120lbs, and Camden Lloyd at 138lbs, but fell 43-19. The Indians then got up big against Waukee in the consolation round 25-15 on the back of wins from Bonanno, Sean Cunningham at 170lbs, Miles Berg at 195lbs, Cael Crawford at heavyweight, Bowen Downey at 106lbs, and Ryder Downey at 113lbs, but couldn’t pick up anymore points in a 40-25 defeat.

In the seventh place match the Indians matched up with West Des Moines Valley and again got out to an early lead but couldn’t hold on against the Tigers. The Indians subbed in a lot of wrestlers but built a 27-6 lead off of wins from Cunningham, Jacob Darr, and Walker Whalen before Valley tied the score at 27. Camden Lloyd picked up a win by fall to put the Indians up six with two matches to go, but a minor and major victory gave the win to the Tigers.
