The Knoxville Boys Basketball Squad ended the regular season in dramatic and thrilling fashion on Thursday as Luke Keitges drilled a baseline three just before the buzzer to give the Panthers a 72-69 win over Fairfield. Neither team could pull away from the other with both teams enjoying ten points leads at one point. Panthers Coach Jeff Larson told KRLS Sports he had a time out left, but he knew his guys were aware of what needed to happen.
Larson:
“If I called a time out all I was going to say is, guys clear out the lane and Kieren take care of this, so I just decided to let him go himself and save my timeout. I knew he’d get to the middle of the lane, I didn’t know if we’d make the shot, but Luke’s not a freshman anymore and he’s played all year long, and he just buried it, so that was the play.”
Kieren Nichols scored 30 points to lead the Panthers while Spencer Hixson and Mike Hudson scored 13 points each. Knoxville finishes the regular season 12-9 and will take on Grinnell in Pella Monday night in the class three-A District opener.
