The Eagles girls basketball will have to play major spoilers if they want their 2020 season to continue as they compete in the Class 2A Regional Semifinals this evening.
Pella Christian travels to East Marshall High School to take on No. 3 ranked North Linn as only two games remain between tonight and a trip to the state tournament.
Head Coach Brad Engbers knows the Lynx are one of the favorites to contend for a state title this year, but says this Eagles team will head into the matchup with the belief that anything can happen in a basketball tournament, and that their own best basketball could also be yet to come.
“What would happen on one night if everybody had their best game of the season?” Engbers says he asked the girls at practice recently. “Maybe on Friday night, if that’s how we go into it like, getting all the wheels rolling in the same direction, who knows what happens? That’s why you play the games. Obviously, on paper, North Linn is a really good team, but you have to believe on any given night, if all the kids are playing as hard as they can and give their best effort, you have a possibility of knocking somebody big off.”
Coverage from the Class 2A Regional semifinals begins at 6:30 p.m., with opening tip at 7 p.m. on 92.1 KRLS.
