Local credit unions and banks are still doing normal business despite lobbies being closed and appropriate social distancing measures put in place for employees. Mary Kay Van Gorp with Community 1st Credit Union tells KNIA News regular banking services can be done online, but it is the social aspect of this that is the hardest part.

“In the industry, we are very social people. We miss our regular customers, day in and day out, especially on Fridays for paydays seeing everyone. So we are missing that. In place of that, we are reaching out and asking questions, like is there anything we can help you with. Just getting out and talking with our customers, just looking for anything we can do. This situation is not normal for us, because our company believes that together is better.”

Van Gorp also said the rise in technology helps the normal credit union business go on relatively unhindered, as more people become comfortable with banking online and electronic signatures.
