Seniors living in retirement communities have been left to live in isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Hearthstone aimed to lift the spirits of their residents with an event Sunday.

A line of cars came to greet seniors looping around the Fair Haven/Pella Manor property in Pella.

Those who participated drove by and waved, honked, or held up an encouraging banner or sign to Hearthstone residents. The 2020 Tulip Queen and Royal Court, led by Queen Hanna Kendall, also participated in the mini-car parade.

Families submitted messages at the Hearthstone Facebook page, and many of those messages were read aloud alongside some 1960s music during the event on 92.1 KRLS.
