With the Simpson baseball team trying to rebuild with young talent after several down years, one of the strategies for head coach Nathan Roling has been to recruit local talent. Indianola pitcher Brady Held had his freshman season last year and proved to be one of the top pitchers on the squad, and coach Roling went back to the well for more Indians players. Freshman Dallas Jackson was due to make his Simpson debut this season, and tells KNIA Sports the team culture at Simpson was similar to what he experienced in high school, and he knew that there was a lot of upside to playing locally.
“When I chose to go here I knew it was going to be a young team and I knew it would be in a bit of a rebuilding phase. The biggest part was knowing that playing time could be there if I worked for it, and I knew I was going to work for it. In the years to come for such a young team, there is the opportunity to become pretty great. I knew there was ability with guys I already knew and guys that I met when I came here that I know there is great baseball seasons to come.”
The Storm got off to a 3-4 start this season before it was canceled.
