Several high school seniors are missing out on many moments as their high school careers come to an end, with more hanging in the balance in May as state leaders monitor the spread of COVID-19. So, to celebrate, a Pella High School senior has been working to recognize all of his classmates.

Student Body President Grayson Parisee has created Facebook and Instagram pages to highlight members of the Class of 2020 at Pella High School, with senior photos and short biographies posted twice a day (screenshot below) .

Parisee says he got the idea from a childhood friend in North Carolina, and wanted to bring a bit of joy and recognition at a time of disappointment for high school seniors everywhere.

“I lived in North Carolina when I was 3 and 4 and I had a friend named Ryan that lived down the street,” he says, “I haven’t really been in touch with Ryan, but in the age of social media I’ve gotten to see all the stuff that he’s doing, and he’s the student body president his high school down in North Carolina and I saw that they were doing something pretty similar like a senior spotlight, where they were spotlighting their seniors through the different events that were that were canceled.”

“Their spring musical was canceled, so they decided to spotlight all of the seniors within that and then fun moments in rehearsal, so I reached out to him because I haven’t talked to him in 15 years and brought it to our student council and we decided to do something pretty similar–just to take a look at all the different seniors, all their great accomplishments, what they’ve been doing, and what they plan on doing in the fall.”

A page honoring senior class members has also been adopted by the Pella Christian Student Council and posted on their social media accounts.
