The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted several groups and organizations, and for one across the state and country, it came at a time when they needed to interact with the public the most. David Robbins with the Red Rock Ruck Club says limitations at stores and the interest of public health put a stop to cookie sales for the Girl Scouts of America

So, he says the Red Rock Ruck Club purchased the bulk of Girl Scout cookies locally, and this week, will donate them to the retirement villages, Pella Regional staff, and school workers that are distributing the free school lunch in the Pella Community School District. He estimates about 450 packages will be donated through this effort.

In the meantime, Robbins says the impact on the Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa will be felt potentially for the upcoming year, as according to his wife Ashley, who leads a local Pella Girl Scout Troop, well over 200,000 packages were not able to be sold, which could limit opportunities for members to participate in camps and receive scholarships.
