The struggle to build a competitive baseball program at Melcher-Dallas has come with a lot of speed bumps in the roadway. The Saints four years ago did not even field a team and now Coach Pat Ferguson has been trying to build a competitive program. Ferguson tells KNIA Sports they have taken their lumps the last few seasons playing inexperienced players, but he is confident that the program is ready to turn the corner.

Ferguson:
“Because we don’t have a lot of upperclassmen going out and upperclassmen there. I was thinking double digit wins and the following summer, next year, I think we can have a very good team.”

As many as six eighth graders or freshmen were in the line up for Ferguson, whose team went 6-24 last summer. Ferguson adds with their experience they should be much improved this season.
