Many high school athletes will tell you, they use the track and field season to stay in shape for their next sport may it be baseball or softball or something in the fall. Some, however, like track and field and the many individual events that it offers. One such athlete is Melcher-Dallas’ Grace Overgaard. She was looking at getting back to the state meet this season in the shot put where she finished 24th last season. This year, she was looking to get to state in both the shot put and discus. Overgaard tells KNIA Sports she likes those events because of the individual work that she has to put in.

Overgaard:
“It’s very individual. I like the individually, I like to work on that and know that I’m responsible for the results, knowing that you’re good at it and knowing you have that basis and pushing yourself past that.”

Overgaard adds she has been practicing at home and was hoping to see what she could do but her season came to an early end due to the season being cancelled.
