A Pella Christian senior had eyes on competing for a pair of state championships this weekend after a successful 2019 event of throws at Drake Stadium.

Blake Veenstra was the 5th place shot put thrower in Class 2A last spring, with four seniors finishing ahead of him in that event, and was in 6th place in the discus throw as well — and again, was sandwiched with five seniors placing ahead of him and six behind him. His discus throw came just a few weeks after shattering a school record with a throw of 173 feet, 1 inch on May 7th, 2019.

Veenstra is heading to Hawkeye Community College this fall to continue his throwing career.
