Several local businesses have received assistance to make it through tough times caused by COVID-19. Governor Reynolds launched the Iowa Small Business Relief Program to provide financial assistance to small businesses economically impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic in April, and several rounds of funding have been released since then. The program offers eligible small businesses grants ranging from $5,000-$25,000. in addition to offering Iowa businesses a deferral of sales and use or withholding taxes due and waiver of penalty and interest. The application window closed March 31 and Iowa Economic Development Authority will not open a new round of applications. As of May 20th, $72.5 million has been distributed, including more than $692,000 to Marion County based businesses.

Marion County businesses and organizations are encouraged to help Iowa’s economic recovery and growth by completing a new survey developed by the University of Northern Iowa’s (UNI) Institute for Decision Making and Strategic Marketing Services. This is a follow-up to the survey of businesses/organizations released mid-March.

The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) will use survey results to inform public policy on recovery and growth, including potential resources for businesses and organizations.
