The Knoxville Senior Center is in need of volunteers for their Meals on Wheels program. Meals on Wheels is a program that delivers meals to individuals at home who are unable to purchase or prepare their own meals. Martha Dykstra with the Senior Center tells KNIA/KRLS News there have been organizations that have stepped up in Knoxville but the center is still in need. She says she is hesitant to use the same organizations over and over as it is not their responsibility and she does not want them to get burned out.

Dysktra says there are only four delivery routes as part of the program and delivering the meals only takes about a half hour to an hour to complete. She says sometimes the deliveries might take a little longer depending on how long a volunteer visits with a person receiving the meals. Dyskstra says for some of the people, the meal delivery might be the only contact they have with another person that entire day. For more information and to volunteer call the Knoxville Senior Center at 641-842-6070.
