While severe weather hit mainly Polk and Jasper Counties on Memorial Day, additional rounds of heavy rainfall impacted most of South Central Iowa.

Between 1-2” of rain fell over most of Marion and Warren Counties over the three-day weekend. Just after a strong storm dumped ¼” of precipitation in about 20 minutes in Pella, it strengthened, with wind gusts topping out near 67 MPH as it knocked down power lines between Kellogg and Newton, and a confirmed EF-1 tornado hit Johnston. Marion and Warren Counties had no severe warned storms on Memorial Day.

Several rounds of thunderstorms are possible through Thursday afternoon as an active pattern continues this week, with another 1-2” of rain possible by the end of the week. The National Weather Service shows pleasant conditions in the forecast after the storms, with daytime highs in the low 70s and sunshine starting this Friday and continuing this coming weekend.
