As young as the Melcher-Dallas Baseball Squad is going to be this season, the younger players got plenty of experience from the Saints last summer. Several eighth graders and freshmen were forced into action due to low numbers and not enough upperclassmen on the squad. Coach Pat Ferguson tells KNIA Sports it was an eye opening experience for the younger guys last year, but he thinks they are better for it.

Ferguson:
“They understand what varsity baseball is like, the speed of the game. Just going from junior high to varsity with the speed on the basepaths, and how much smarter they are.”

The Saints start the season on Tuesday against defending conference champion Lamoni.
