The Tulip City softball teams will get together for a pair of Little Hawkeye Conference games this evening at Pella High School. It’s a matchup of two teams looking to get on the right track, as both the Dutch and Eagles lost their openers on Monday night.

The Lady Dutch will try to find their stride offensively after a rather quiet opening night performance against Grinnell. Pella picked up just five base hits as a team in its opener, and will look to snap a two-game skid in the series with the Eagles. Pella Christian showed a lot of promise in its opener at Class 4A power Oskaloosa, and was close to pulling off a seventh-inning comeback on Monday. Eagles coach Karen Harrill is excited to renew the rivalry, and is optimistic based on her team’s performance early in the season.

“It’s always a rival, so we just have to come ready to play. It’s going to be a JV-varisty-varsity, so it’s going to be hot, and it’s going to be a long night. So hydrate well, get our bodies ready for that. But I like where we’re at right now. I saw some heart [Monday] and some really good talent.”

Pella Christian has won two straight in the series, and took two of the three meetings last season. Tonight’s doubleheader will be broadcast on the KRLS3 stream at KNIAKRLS.com with Jon Mohwinkle calling the action. Pregame coverage begins at 5:15 p.m., with the opening pitch slated for 5:30 at Pella High School.
