twin-cedars-melcher-dallas-showdown-rivalry

The Twin Cedars Softball Squad broke open a tight game in the sixth to run away from Melcher-Dallas Thursday night to win 16-3 in a battle of southern Marion County rivals. The Saints and Sabers were tied at three before the Sabers blew it open in the sixth inning. Grace Bailey got the win giving up three runs and striking out seven. Rylee Dunkin and Ali Mockenhaupt had three hits and Dunkin stole three bases. Zach Peterson got his second win of the season as the baseball squad from Twin Cedars defeated Melcher-Dallas 7-4. Peterson went six innings with seven strikeouts. Saints Baseball Coach Pat Ferguson tells KNIA Sports he does not think there is a sense of urgency this season because his team is so young, so any win will benefit them.

Ferguson:
“I don’t know if I would call it a sense of urgency. I think my kids realize they’re young again, we need more experience and someone we can sneak up on or battle to the end is only going to benefit the kids.”

Twin Cedars baseball is now 3-0 on the season while the softball squad is 2-1, both teams host Orient-Macksburg tonight. Melcher-Dallas Baseball is now 0-3 while softball falls to 2-1. Both Saints squads will host Moravia tonight with baseball getting underway at 6:00pm and the softball game at 8:00pm.
