For the second straight night, the Knoxville Softball Squad had to gut out a win, this time in an eight inning affair with Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont 8-4. The Panthers had the game under control scoring three runs in the first three innings and eventually building a 4-0 lead. But back came the Rockets with a run in the fifth, a run in the sixth and two to tie it at four in the seventh and even had the winning run at third base with no outs but could not get it home. Knoxville responded with four runs in the eighth to put the Rockets in a hole they could not dig out of. Panthers Coach Carla Smith tells KRLS Sports the last two nights has shown a lot of what her team is made of.

Smith:
“Last night we just ran the bases really well, seeing opportunities and taking advantage of everything. Tonight, just keeping everything in front and finding the determination to come back after they tied it up on us.”

Ashlyn Finarty won her third game of the season going the distance giving up four runs on ten hits, two strikeouts and no walks. Emma Dunkin had three hits and scored three runs. Knoxville is now 3-0 and 1-0 in the South Central Conference. The Panthers baseball Squad lost to the Rockets 8-7 last night. The Panthers put up runs, but left 14 runners on base. Both Knoxville squads have the weekend off and are back in action on Monday at Centerville.
