The PCM softball and baseball teams played host to Roland-Story Monday evening in Heart of Iowa Conference action. The softball team was able to finish off a back-and-forth contest with a tight 7-6 victory. After taking a 2-0 lead after one, the Norsemen responded with three runs in the top of the second to go on top 3-2.

PCM trailed 5-4 going into the bottom of the sixth, but that’s when the Mustangs turned things around for good. PCM was able to execute some small ball and take advantage of some defensive errors to go up 7-5 after the frame. Roland-Story started a brief rally to get within one run, but PCM capped it off after six and a half.

It was a fantastic outing for Sidney Shaver, going 4-4 at the plate with a double and RBI. Paige Steenhoek pitched the complete game, giving up 10 hits and four walks without a strikeout. The Mustangs improve to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the conference. Up next is a trip to Knoxville this evening, a game that will air on 95.3 KNIA beginning at 6:45 p.m.

The Mustang baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to #9 in 2A Roland-Story, and didn’t score a run all night. The Norsemen scored all three runs of a 3-0 win in the first inning of game one. Game 2 saw the Norsemen take a 1-0 lead after one. Roland-Story added four in the fourth and another in the seventh for a 7-0 victory.

In total, PCM had just five base hits on the night. Caleb Duinink was the owner of two of those, and was the only Mustang with multiple hits on the evening.

PCM falls to 3-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference. They’ll be back in action Wednesday at South Hamilton in the first conference rematch of the season.
