One of the challenges of COVID-19 has been unique as it relates to currency. The Federal Reserve reports a widespread shortage of coins in circulation, largely due to more contactless payments made through online means or credit cards, as well as slowing of the U.S. Mint’s coin production. Leighton State Bank is hoping to bolster the circulation locally, and is waiving coin-counting fees for non-customers through July 17th. The bank is also hosting a drawing to incentivize people to bring in their change, as they will add those names to a list for a $50 gift card drawing to a local business of the winner’s choice.
