The PCM baseball and softball teams are back in action Monday, traveling to Gilbert for Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheaders. Originally scheduled as single games, it will serve as a makeup from previously scheduled games that were rained out that PCM was scheduled to host.

The Mustang softball team looks to snap a four-game losing streak. Gilbert currently sits in second place in the conference standings, and is still in contention for a league title. PCM has lost four in a row in the series to Nevada, having not beaten the Tigers since 2017. Head Coach Shaun Hudnut says that since the conference title is no longer a possibility, this final week of the season will be all about improving as much as possible in preparation for the postseason.

“We’re just trying to make sure we get a little better each day. Conference race for us is out of the question at this point, so what we’re trying to do is make sure we’re ready for July 15th. We pulled up Nevada in our first round matchup, they’re a good team, it’s definitely going to be a challenge. But having seen them once, and seeing them again this week, that’s an opportunity we have to maybe squeak one by them.”

Meanwhile, the baseball team will also be in action against the Tigers. It will be one of the toughest tests of the season for the Mustangs, as Gilbert enters at the 10th-ranked team in Class 3A. Both doubleheaders are scheduled to get underway at 5:00 p.m. in Gilbert.
