Simpson College has cut ties with part-time assistant cross country coach James Kirby, after allegations of inappropriate conduct. According to screenshots posted from a Twitter account, Kirby messaged a woman about her 19-year-old daughter. The messages state his attraction to the daughter, comments that she is likely too young for him, as well as asking for discretion from the mother. Later messages show Kirby apologizing for sending the messages and indicating he was drinking in excess at the time.

A statement from Simpson College President Marsha Kelliher says Simpson College takes allegations of this nature seriously, and has cut ties and interactions with Kirby immediately. The statement from Kelliher also says:

“Our number one priority has been, and will continue to be, our students. We do not condone any action that is in conflict with our mission and values. I thank those who elevated their concerns to the college.”

Kirby was the head cross country coach at Dowling Catholic High School, and currently serves as pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Carlisle.
