It was a back-and-forth bout between two rivals to end the 2020 regular softball season, but the Pella Christian softball team was able to come away with the series sweep of Pella in a 6-5 Eagles win heard live on 92.1 KRLS.

The Lady Dutch started the game with a lead in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of a two-base throwing error. Pella Christian answered with runs in the top of the 2nd to tie, and top of the 3rd to lead, only for Pella to rally back again and take a 3-2 advantage, once again pouncing on another P.C. error.

Pella Christian found another tally in the top of the 5th, and took a late lead in the top of the 6th. Pella would answer again, with a little senior night magic from Courtney Thompson and a pair of two-out hits would lead to the tying run and go-ahead run in the form of Thompson to score.

But Pella Christian was in the heart of their order, and an Emri Agre double scored Chloe Morgan to tie it up in the top of the 7th.

Anna Bonnett then came through to get Agre home as the eventual winning score with a single. Pella would get two on with nobody out to start the inning, but a line-drive double play left a runner on third with two outs. Controversy marred the end of the contest, as Pella’s Katie Pollock was ruled safe at 1st base, but after the umpires met to discuss, they reversed the call — the Lady Dutch thought the Eagles Bonnett bobbled the ball, while the Eagles argued Pollock was a step short of the bag and it was a catch. Either way, it was Pella Christian that earned the season sweep.

Pella finishes at 3-15 overall in the regular season, while the Eagles head to the playoffs at 8-8. Pella Christian travels to Pleasantville Monday to open the Class 2A regional playoffs, while the Lady Dutch are at Red Rock rival Knoxville Thursday to start 4A postseason play. Hear both games live on 92.1 KRLS, with both Monday’s and Thursday’s first pitches scheduled for 7 p.m.
