One of the biggest challenges facing school districts across Iowa is how to ensure remote learning can be equal with the standard of in-person education as Return to Learn plans are drafted and modified during the summer.

Pella School District Director of K-12 Instruction Lowell Ernst says as of now, the district is planning to move forward with class in person for the majority of students, but preparations are being made for students who might be more vulnerable to the virus and in case of an outbreak that could cause a school closure.

Ernst says the making remote, off-site learning match what would be typically found in a typical curriculum is still a hurdle that is difficult, if not impossible to clear, but the district still has to be prepared to incorporate a school-from-home approach that would be required.
