A heat advisory is in effect for all of Iowa this afternoon and evening. Daytime highs will approach the mid-90s, and with high humidity, heat index values will likely top 100 degrees.

Those planning to be outdoors for extended periods of time should stay hydrated, wear loose-fitting, light colored clothing, and take frequent breaks in air conditioning. Dr. Tim Yoder with Tri County Veterinary Clinic in Pella reminds all pet owners to check on their animals as well, and avoid strenuous activity during the peak heating hours. While the forecast is not as hot on Sunday, humid conditions are expected again.

Chances for showers and thunderstorms will increase overnight tonight and again on Monday morning. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS for the latest weather information.
