Starting next week, we will countdown the top ten sports moments for the Melcher-Dallas Saints. Today we look at an honorable mention when the spring sports season got shut down, and then ultimately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The girls track program for the Saints has come far in recent seasons from not fielding a team four years ago to having girls qualify for the state meet. One runner that was looking forward to achieving a rare goal in qualifying all four years was J’Lyn Knutson. She had qualified in her freshman and sophomore seasons and was looking forward to that in her junior campaign. However when the season got cancelled her goal of going to state all four years was gone.

Knutson:
“Just that my goal of going to state track and state cross country was, over because I can’t go all four years anymore and it was just heartbreaking, and after that went through my head I thought of Emery because he is done.”

Her teammate Emery Sage, a senior was looking forward to getting to the Blue Oval this past spring. Sage says he was disappointed but is ready to get on with the next phase of his life.
