The #6 moment of the 2019-2020 school year for PCM goes all the way back to August 2019. Coming off a state championship the season before, the Mustang football team looked to start their year hot against in-county rival Newton. The game was moved to Central College due to field construction in Monroe.

PCM started struck first with an 8-0 lead, but Newton hung close, staying within one point at the half, 15-14. The Mustangs added a score in the third quarter, but Newton came back with two touchdowns and a two-point conversion to send the game to overtime at 22-22.

PCM scored first in the overtime period to go up 29-22. Newton responded with a touchdown of their own, and went for the win on the road with a two-point conversion attempt.

That play sealed the 29-28 final score, and PCM moved to 1-0 on the season. The Mustangs went on to finish the season with an 8-3 record, bowing out in the quarterfinal round of the Class 2A playoffs. 13 seniors departed the program.
