The Indianola City Council approved an agreement with the Indianola YMCA at their meeting Monday, amending terms on the current contract regarding rent and maintenance responsibilities. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News the agreement includes a rent reduction, paired with performance markers.

“It called for the rent to be $70,000 a year. The YMCA pays the city that money, we own the building, they are the tenant, we are the landlord. They pay the rent which goes into a separate fund that is earmarked for the maintenance of that building per the terms of the agreement. The agreement stipulates certain things the city has to do to maintain the building. Staff had said all along that if the YMCA is asking for something, we have to have some accountability.”

The performance metrics include providing a five-year plan on fitness replacements and updates and snow removal now handled by the YMCA among others. For more information, tune in to today’s Let’s Talk Indianola.
