Heal House of Warren County held an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony for their new facility Sunday afternoon, taking over the building that was previously the Woods Motel. Laurie Abernathy with Heal House tells KNIA News helping the building get renovated was a collaborative effort from many volunteers around the community, and the work doesn’t stop now that the building is open.

“Our philosophy is it is not a hand out, it is a hand up. We are going to get people on their feet here for 30-60 days, get them a job, whatever the case may be we can help, get them a place to live. We have to break the cycle, and we’ll start with the youth. We have to get people feeling confident and good about themselves, and then they will give it back to our community.”

Abernathy also said that if anyone wishes to donate, whether through volunteering or monetarily, to contact Heal House.
