A racist incident led to classes being cancelled Wednesday at Simpson College.

According to a statement from President Marsha Kelliher, the Simpson College Black Student Union (BSU) held a regularly scheduled virtual meeting Tuesday evening when an individual joined and began chanting racial epithets. Members of the BSU immediately informed the administration, who contacted the Indianola Police Department. The statement from Kelliher said:

“Simpson College does not tolerate acts of hatred, bias, racism, or discrimination of any kind on our campus or by members of the Simpson community. All reports of hate-bias are thoroughly investigated. Any student found responsible for such conduct is subject to sanctions including suspension and expulsion from the College.”

Students also held a protest in the student union today in support of the BSU.
