pleasantville-3

Following the first full week of classes for Pleasantville High School, all three of their fall seasons are in full swing. To recap this week’s results:

On Tuesday, Trojan volleyball hosted a triangular Tuesday night, welcoming Madrid and Grand View Christian. After falling short in their first two contests of 2020, the girls finally managed to win their first set of the year. In fact, they won three. After losing the first set of the night against Madrid, head coach Joel Allman’s girls rattled off three straight for their first win of the season, 3-1 (18-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-17). That streak ended as they were swept by Grand View Christian, 2-0 (25-15, 25-17). The Thunder also defeated Madrid 2-0 for a perfect performance Tuesday night.

Head coach Aaron Fichter’s cross country squads travelled to Wayne for their second meet of the year and first since classes began. Instead of five teams running in the opener, this week’s showcase had 15. The girls finished sixth out of seven scored teams, while the boys had another incomplete. Hailee McCormick and Devon Luing were the top runners for each side, finishing 17th and fifth respectively.

Trojan football is 2-0 for the second straight year after a 56-29 win at Lynnville-Sully. It was a tale of two halves as the visitors struggled to get rolling on all three sides of the ball, special teams included. They trailed the Hawks 8-7 at halftime. After receiving the second half kickoff, Jake DeJoode scored on a 61 yard touchdown run on the first play of the half. On the ensuing L-S possession, Colby Sandholdt picked off Conner Maston for a pick six. The Hawks would then fumble the ensuing kickoff and Pleasantville capitalized with DeJoode’s third touchdown run of the game. This entire scoring run took less than three minutes. DeJoode’s hat trick and Sandholdt, who had a second pick six later in the quarter, made them the KNIA/KRLS Co-Players of the week. Head coach Mack Jorth was just as stoked as he usually is seeing the way his guys bounced back after not living up to par in the first half.

This coming week, the cross country teams have a short turnaround as they go to Central Decatur on Tuesday. The volleyball squad has another triangular on Thursday against Clarke and Mount Ayr, as the former will serve as the host. Finally, the football team will have their home opener and Senior Night this Friday as Mount Ayr comes to town for a second date with Trojan athletics programs in as many days.
