Two weeks of not practicing together officially did not seem to affect the Twin Cedars Cross Country Squad on Tuesday in their first meet of the season as they Sabers placed runner-up at the Central Decatur Invitational just ten points out of first place Chariton. Running in wet and cold conditions, Class 1A all-stater Rylee Dunkin won the event in a time of 20:21 with Cheyenne Bruns placing sixth in a personal best time of 22:03 and Grace Bailey also set a personal best in 16th place with a 23:30. Brooke Roby also set a personal record with a time of 24:37 finishing 21st overall. The Sabers had been forced to workout on their own due to the school going to full online learning for two weeks because of a breakout of COVID-19 that suspended sports.
The Pleasantville Girls finished in fifth place. The Trojans were led over the line by Hailee McCormick in seventh with a time of 22:04, Ashlyn McConnell was 18th in a time of 23:49 while Azell Smith was 28th with a final time of 25:47. Melcher-Dallas’s lone runner, J’Lyn Knutson, finished third overall in 21:36. On the boys side, Pleasantville finished in sixth place. The Trojans had a top ten showing from Devin Luing in 18:13, Trevor Pulse was 16th 20:09, and Justin Nikkel was 27th in 21:37. Melcher-Dallas boys also had just one runner compete as Freshman Mason DeJong finished 49th overall in a time of 24:57.
