The PCM volleyball team is back in action tonight for a tough test on their home floor. Nevada makes the visit to Monroe, and is the #7 team in Class 3A. The Mustangs will look to build upon their five-set win on Tuesday over Greene County, which snapped a six-game skid. Nevada enters hot, winners of five of their last six games. Head Coach Mike Vittetoe says that his team has shown promise against some of the top teams in the state, and is excited to see how they perform against the conference frontrunner.

“A really good team coming in Thursday. But at the BCLUW tournament, we saw some teams as good as Nevada or even better, and we played with a couple of those. Sixth-ranked Hudson, we had them on the ropes. We had an 18-17 lead going to 21 and just didn’t quite finish that. Against a good North Polk team, we were in a similar situation, had a late lead. We’ve showed that we can play with some of those good teams, so it’ll be kind of nice to see how we match up with Nevada. They’re definitely the team to beat in the conference.”

The Cubs defeated PCM in last year’s postseason, and have won 14 straight against PCM since 2007. In fact, PCM has not won a set against Nevada since 11 years ago to the date – September 10th, 2009. Action gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at PCM High School.

The PCM cross country team will also be in action today, making the long road trip to Davis County for a meet. The Mustangs were originally scheduled to run at Grinnell on Tuesday, but will instead race tonight. Head Coach Eric Karr says that the uncertainty of being able to compete at all meets means that each one is of high importance.

“I think we really need to treat each meet as ‘This is a very important meet.’ And we don’t have to do that in other seasons. So I think there will be a little added stress in that aspect. Every season before this it’s just ‘Hey, let’s improve.’ And this year it might be ‘Well, this might be what gets us into our qualifying spot.’ You just don’t know.”

The boys will look to place with a full team this time around, while the girls team will try to improve on two top-15 finishes in the opener last week. The meet begins at 4:30 p.m. at Fisher Park near Bloomfield.
