The top ranked Mustangs are riding high in the early going of the 2020 season, and they hope to keep that up tonight on the road against Chariton.

The differences between the two teams so far this year are as noticeable as a train going past your house. PCM is 2-0, while the Chargers are winless. One has scored 43 points per game, and the other has not scored once this year. The list goes on.

The Mustangs have been led by a dominant backfield featuring Senior running back Aiden Anderson and Sophomore Augie Stock who only looks to get better as he gets more playing experience.

The Chargers have struggled on offense, completing less than half of their passes and averaging just 2.5 yards per carry in the running game. This has led to being shut out twice to start the season. One thing that stands out is their ability to force turnovers. They’ve had three interceptions this year, all by different players, to go with one defensive fumble recovery.

Head coach Grag Bonnett, on a short week, has done his best to get his team ready, even practicing in the mud for what could be less than favorable weather in their only regular season game played on a grass field in 2020. Just because this matchup favors the visitors, Bonnett makes sure he does everything to keep his player’s minds on the task at hand.

“We’ve had a really physical week of practice. That’s one way I take care of that. We’re going to be physical. Like I said, if you let your guard down, and you start taking things easy, then that’s where bad things like injuries and little bumps and bruises and things like that start to happen. I think they understand that. Also this week, we’ve been able to get out and practice, not on our turf, but in the mud and things like that. I think that’s helped a little bit, too. Just kind of a change in scenery. It’s fun. Football’s still fun to play in the mud, so the guys have really enjoyed it and we’ve had really a good week of preparation.”
