Changes have been announced as it relates to state qualifying and the state meet for Iowa High School cross country athletes.

Class 3A and 4A schools will now have district meets on Wednesday, October 21st. Pella High School has been selected as a host school for the 3A qualifier as well. Class 1A and 2A schools will still qualify on October 22nd.

The state meet for the larger schools is now on Friday, October 30th at Lakeside Golf Course in Fort Dodge, while 1A and 2A athletes will run for state titles on October 31st at the same site.

Pella is ranked 2nd in Class 3A in the latest team boys rankings, with Josiah Wittenberg listed as the 8th ranked runner individually and teammate Tony Schmitz is 23rd. Lady Dutch senior Abby Cutler ranks 16th among 3A individuals.

Norah Pearson of Knoxville has made her return to the Class 3A rankings, currently in 9th, after a slow start to 2020 due to injury.

Indianola’s boys and girls teams are just outside the team rankings in Class 4A under Teams to Watch. Teammates Emily Naughton and Joey Werling are 18th and 19th in the individual ratings.

Twin Cedars Sophomore Rylee Dunkin is 8th in Class 1A among individuals, and J’Lyn Knutson of Melcher-Dallas is 25th.
