The 7th Annual Knoxville Cancer Relay is underway, as participants are running a five-mile loop around the city for cancer awareness. Bruce Huckfeldt, a competitive runner from Waukee who runs numerous 5K’s in support of charitable organizations, ran the opening leg at 5:00 p.m., and explained his cause.

“I have ran a 5K every day for 14 straight days, but I’m going to go all the way through the month of October with a goal of raising $3,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project. I’m about $500 in, $287 away from a lifetime total of $10,000 raised. Running for charity is awesome, it’s what I love to do.”

Anyone wanting to participate is encouraged to do so. A group leaves at the top of every hour through 5:00 p.m. today. The starting line is on Marion Street, just north of Ken Locke Stadium. Those unable to run can still donate, with drive through donations taking place near the starting line. An interview with Huckfeldt and organizer Katie Truetken can be heard on today’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.
