It has been a long season for the Trojans, but a cool afternoon at Panorama Thursday was the stage of the 2020 West Central Conference meet.

Hailee McCormick, who has finished 16th and 18th in the last two meets, split the difference with a 17th place finish against tough competition that includes five ranked teams. Emmie Kenyon was her usual self and wound up 32nd. As a team, the girls wound up sixth out of ten teams that scored.

On the boys side, the high level of competition may have caught up to star runner Devon Luing as he finished at a season worst 29th. He still finished with a usual time of 19:02, but facing five ranked teams will cause some ripples in the standings. As a team, the Trojan boys placed ninth out of 11.

Head Coach Aaron Fichter doesn’t look at the placement of his runners, but rather how they competed against top competition, and he liked what he saw.

“I thought the girls ran extremely well with five ranked teams on the girls’ side. We finished sixth overall as a team. Hailee McCormick was just three places out of All-Conference. On the boys side, we finished ninth, and definitely had kids run a better race than they had in the past. It was good competition on that side with five ranked teams again.”

The next outing for Pleasantville comes next Thursday at ACGC for the state qualifying meet with 18 teams slated to compete.
