Officers from the Knoxville Police Department, Pella Police Department and Marion County Sheriff’s Office recently attended Fair & Impartial Policing instructor school at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.

With this certification, these officers will be able to train others on the science of implicit bias, as well as ways to recognize and understand their own and others’ bias. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller tells KNIA/KRLS News that everyone has biases, whether or not they are recognizable, and urges everyone to consider their own biases. He adds that this training will lead to safer and better policing for both the public and the officers involved.
