The Norwalk football team traveled to Glenwood Friday evening to open the Class 3A postseason, and came away with a 30-29 upset victory, as aired on 94.3 KNIA.

Glenwood got the scoring started early, taking a 14-0 lead after the first quarter. Norwalk responded with a score of their own, a Chase McKinney touchdown reception to make it 21-6 at halftime. The Warriors had a shot to score right before the half, but came up just short.

The Warriors looked crisp to start the second half, forcing three Glenwood punts and punching in two touchdowns and a field goal. Norwalk would take a 22-21 lead into the fourth quarter.

With around three minutes to play, Rams quarterback Tate Mayberry scampered for a long scoring run to go up 29-22. Norwalk had one final drive to try to tie the game with a touchdown and extra point. The Warriors drove the field, and a sliding catch by sophomore Dillon Ranck made the score 29-28. Norwalk elected to go for the win with 16 seconds left, and got it with a 2-point conversion.

Quarterback Max Juergens had four touchdown passes, two of which were to Ethan Carlson. The win moves Norwalk to 2-5 overall. They’ll be back in action next week at Council Bluffs Lewis Central for round two of the postseason.
