At Monday’s Knoxville City Council meeting, the council held a public hearing on an offer to purchase the open lot at 705 S 7th Street from the city. City Manager Aaron Adams says the council feels that a better offer is possible.

“We did have an offer for $1,000 to purchase that lot. As part of the discussion, the council thought the offer was a little low, because it is a nice sized lot. Definitely appropriate to have a home on it. They were interested in potentially entering into a development agreement with the potential buyers, meaning that they would expect something to be built within a specified time period. The folks who were interested as buyers, I think long-term wanted that. But at the same time, I don’t think they were far enough down that road to be comfortable entering into that kind of an agreement.”

The open lot is one of the largest owned by the City of Knoxville. Hear more from Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams about the recent council meeting on today’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.
