Two PCM Mustangs, one Pella Christian Eagle a Twin Cedars Saber and a Melcher-Dallas Saint all qualified for the state cross country meet at State Qualifiers at Pekin and Williamsburg in class 1A and 2A Thursday afternoon.

In class 2A PCM sophomore Paige Steenhoek placed 11th, earning a state bid with a time of 21:05. Freshman Tiffani Koonce placed 13th with a time of 21:15. As a team, the Mustangs placed fourth with a score of 113.

Pella Christian’s boys squad got one runner through to state. Sophomore Caden Van Wyngarden came in 13th with a time of 18:00.

In class 1A, Twin Cedars Runner Rylee Dunkin is headed back to the State Cross Country Meet after winning the Pekin State Qualifier on Thursday in a time of 20:31, finishing nearly a minute ahead of the second place runner. Dunkin was the only member of the Sabers to qualify as Cheyanne Bruns placed 17th with Kisha Reed 19th, and Grace Bailey coming home in 20th. As a team Twin Cedars missed qualifying, 27 points behind Pekin and Iowa City Regina.

The Pella Christian boys placed fourth with a team score of 113. The Pella Christian girls had no individual qualifiers, and placed fifth as a team with a score of 128. PCM’s boys also had no qualifiers, and finished 10th with a score of 233.

Melcher-Dallas Runner J’Lyn Knutson is a four-time State Cross Country Qualifier. The Senior finished fifth at the Mount Ayr Class 1A State Qualifier on Thursday in a time of 21:59. Knutson was the only runner for the Saints.

The class 1A state qualifier at ACGC that Pleasantville was set to run in was postponed to this afternoon due to rain. Steenhoek, Koonce, Van Wyngarden, Dunkin and Knutson will take part in the Class 1A and 2A state meet on Saturday October 31st in Fort Dodge.
