The Knoxville chapter of Rotary International is hosting an event over the next two weekends to coincide with the organization’s long-standing mission to end polio. T. Waldmann-Williams with the club says that two money raising events will take place tomorrow.

“On October 24th and the 31st from 9:00 to 12:30, three people, each half hour, are going to be riding bicycles to end polio. And we hope people will donate some money toward that. Also on the 24th and 31st, we’re having a 50/50 drawing, but it’ll be all connected. It’s about raising money to end polio; there are only two countries that still have it. It could be spread to the rest of the world. We must fight and end this, and it’s in Pakistan and Afghanistan.”

The event is at the Knoxville HyVee the next two Saturdays, and people can register for the 50/50 raffle upon arrival. Every dollar donated is matched by two dollars from the Gates Foundation. Rotary International has been working to eradicate polio since the 1980’s.
