Winter has been ahead of schedule across the state of Iowa, and according to the National Weather Service, most of south central Iowa received its first inch of snow in the 2020-21 season.

Overnight Sunday into Monday morning, one inch of snow was recorded in Knoxville, with a report of .5″ in Pella and most of Warren County seeing between 1 to 1 1/2″. Typically, the first inch of snow falls in the last week of November into the first week of December.

Additionally, Sunday’s afternoon high temperature of 36 tied the previous mark for the coldest on record, set in 1957. More mild conditions return to the region Wednesday, with highs in the 50s expected through the weekend.
