A Melcher-Dallas man has been charged in an unsolved sexual assault case from 2009. In the evening hours of August 7, 2009, Shane William Farriester, a juvenile at the time, allegedly rendered the victim unconcious and committed sexual assault at the old Knoxville Skate Park. Following the assault, biological evidence was obtained via a sexual assault kit, including a DNA sample from the assailant.

Farriester’s DNA was again collected following a different crime, and was found to match the DNA sample obtained from the assault. During an interview, Farriester said that he had never engaged in a sex act with the victim. Another DNA sample was collected during this interview, which was confirmed to match the sample from the assault.

Farriester is charged with Sexual Abuse 2nd Degree, an arrest warrant was issued, and a no contact order was requested. He was released on bond. An initial court appearance is scheduled for November 5th. Under Iowa law, since this offense occurred when Farriester was a juvenile, the trial could be handled by juvenile court.
