The Pella Public Library is hosting a special family storytelling event next week.

Youth Services Librarian Katie Dreyer says while they typically host storytime in the mornings for kids, this special virtual gathering is meant to bring families together to pass on history and more personal experiences.

“This month is National Family Storytelling month, which coincides well with the holidays and sharing those family stories don’t necessarily get passed down from generation to generation,” she says. “I think oral history is a huge part of our lives that maybe some of us don’t really do anymore — we don’t share those family stories like they used to be. This is just a way for families to try to connect and share.”

At the event over Zoom on Tuesday, November 10th at 6:30 p.m., Dr. Bob Leonard of KNIA/KRLS, Tulip Time Dutch Demos Costume Expert Mille Vande Kieft, and Central College students will be featured. Registration can be done in advance at this link or by calling the Pella Public Library at 641.628.4268.
