Less than two weeks remain in the Knoxville Fire Department Auxiliary’s Blanket Drive. The organization, which consists of spouses of firefighters in Knoxville, is taking donations of hand-made blankets, and plans to deliver them to residents of long-term care facilities in town prior to Christmas. Lori Cutter with the Auxiliary says that contributing to this cause will benefit those who give and receive blankets.

“There is so much depression going on in the world right now. When you step outside of yourself and think about changing the life of another person, bringing a smile to someone else in the form of making a blanket, when you put your heart into it and think about how that can change someone’s life, it’s amazing how it lifts your own spirit. They say it’s one of the best things to do when you’re depressed and don’t know what to do for yourself.”

They are in search of fleece, quilted or crocheted lap size blankets made by local residents. They need to be brand new and roughly 48″ x 60″ in size, and can be dropped off at the department during daytime business hours by December 15th. Those without crafting skills that still want to contribute can do so by monetary donation to the department.
