The Pella and Knoxville wrestling teams travel to Nevada for a triangular tonight.

Pella won two duals and lost another in their travels to Davis County to open the 2020-21 winter season, and look to build additional early season momentum as the program tries to leap into new heights of success. Head Coach Jay Pike says his belief in additional growth this winter is driven in part by the larger number of athletes hitting the mat.

For the Panthers, it’s the season debut, and their roster may be one of the youngest around with only two seniors on the entire roster, and a host of sophomores and freshmen looking to make their marks. Coach Doug Hatch tells KNIA Sports while young, he is going to lean heavily on the sophomores like Marco Alejo, Luke Spaur, and Gavin Montalvo who got a lot of mat time last year.

“Marco, Luke, Gavin coming back, those are all solid guys. Plus the addition of Andon Trout coming here. Our sophomores are pretty good guys, that’s what makes up most of our team and they’re our captains, normally I don’t do that, but we have so many sophomores coming back.”

First bouts are scheduled for 6:00 at Nevada.
