Marion County Public Health has finished administering its first 1,000 doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Director Kim Dorn says that 200 more doses are on the way, but that they remain in the initial phase of vaccination.

“We’re still working on what they call Phase 1A, which is healthcare providers. We’ve done a pretty good job of taking care of the ones who have been interested in it so far.”

Dorn adds that there are still people that meet the Phase 1A criteria who have not shown interest in receiving the vaccine. Phase 1B includes a large sector of the population, but the vaccine will not be available to those people until guidance is given from the state government. Dorn anticipates that it could be late spring before vaccines are available to the general public.
